Emma operates in several hardware environments: on desktop systems, on laptop computers, or on a variety of pen-based systems. Although Emma may operate satisfactorily with computers that have less capability than those described below, they should be considered the minimum to ensure satisfaction. • Desktop Hardware. The minimum system required to operate Emma in a desktop environment is a CPU with 256 MB of RAM memory and CD-ROM, 500 MB of hard disk, 28,000 BPS fax modem, 17” CRT, and keyboard. Any central machine that will be expected to store a year’s worth of data must be configured with a larger hard disk. • Laptop Hardware. The minimum system required to operate Emma in a laptop environment is a CPU with 256KB of RAM memory and CD-ROM, 500 MB of hard disk, 28,000 BPS fax modem, backlit LCD screen, and a keyboard. An automobile DC power converter is suggested. • Pen-based Hardware. The minimum system required to operate Emma in a mobile, pen-based environment is a pen-based CPU with 256 MB of RAM memory, 500 MB of hard disk storage, 28,000 BPS fax modem, backlit LCD screen, and a keyboard. An automobile DC power converter is suggested. In all cases, additional RAM memory (at least an additional 256MB) is recommended. It is critical that the capability to backup the Emma databases is available to each installation. For smaller installations, a CD-R is recommended. For larger installation, a tape backup system may be more convenient. There are a variety of printers that can be used to print the Patient Care records and reports that may be produced by Emma. Laser printers are recommended since they are faster, the operating costs are lower (the laser cartridges are cheaper per page than ink-jet) and, most importantly, the images produced by a laser printer will not fade. Ink-jet printers use ink that may fade over a five-year period. Emma will operate under Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP operating systems. 700 River Avenue, Suite 211, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 Phone: (412) 231-3410 E-mail: mcoleman@alleghenyrd.com rregan@alleghenyrd.com |
