Hardware and Software Requirements

EMMA operates in several hardware environments: on desktop systems, on laptop computers, or on a variety of pen-based systems.  Although EMMA may operate satisfactorily with computers that have less capability than those described below, they should be considered the minimum to ensure satisfaction.

Hardware.  The minimum system required to operate EMMA in a environment is a CPU with 4 GHz Pentium 4 CPU with 1 GB (we strongly recommend 2GB) of RAM memory and CD-ROM, standard hard drive and internet access.

It is critical that the capability to backup the EMMA databases is available to each installation.  For smaller installations, a CD-R is recommended.  For larger installation, a tape backup system may be more convenient.

There are a variety of printers that can be used to print the Patient Care records and reports that may be produced by EMMA.  Laser printers are recommended since they are faster, the operating costs are lower (the laser cartridges are cheaper per page than ink-jet) and, most importantly, the images produced by a laser printer will not fade.  Ink-jet printers use ink that may fade over a five-year period.

EMMA will operate under Windows 2000,  Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems.
